Friedensreich Hundertwasser, his fantastic colors

The hobbit homes from The Lord of the Rings movies designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Hundertwasser was an Austrian artist who lived from 1928 to 2000. He is known for his magical colors and dreamlike structures. Not only does he paint, but he also is an architect, anti-nuclear activist, avid environmentalist, and a Jew who survived the Holocaust despite the loss of his family.

I love his work. It's very colorful, first of all. And to me, his work is kind of like a mix of Goethe, Klimt, and a teensy bit of Picasso, but all with an Alice in Wonderland kind of flair. Love it.

some of his paintings:

And some of his buildings, mostly in Austria:

Die Wald-Spirale von Darmstadt

and others, including Kids Place in Osaka, Japan

And here's the man himself:

As he says,
"If man walks in nature's midst, then he is nature's guest
and must learn to behave as a well-brought up guest."
